The Story of Harut and Marut Angels Teaching Magic on Earth's Face

In the beginning, witchcraft was taught by two angels, Harut and Marut, as a test for both of them and for those he taught. At the same time, it turns out the devil also took the knowledge.

"However, long after that, when Prophet Solomon came to power, the practice of witchcraft was forbidden. All the books on magic are planted under his throne," said the scholar of Quranic science in his book entitled "The Hidden, Jinns, Devils, Demons, and Angels in the Qur’an – As-Sunnah, which is the book, The Discourse on the Thought of Scholars of the Past and Present".

After the death of Prophet Sulaiman, the demons who had lost control found the books and then taught the magic again. At that time some Jews followed in the footsteps of Satan and believed in the whisperings of Satan that in fact the power of Prophet Solomon and his greatness was the influence of magic. Allah SWT denied the lie and stated that Prophet Solomon did not perform magic.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Musthafa al-Maraghid in "Tafsir al-Maraghi", said that the Jews suspected Prophet Sulayman was compiling the books of magic from experts in the field. Later, the book was buried under his throne seat. Until one day, the book was excavated and found by those who knew it. The book was then taught to many people.

Magic begins with Harut and Marut. Both know about magic and teach it to humans, but they do not teach it except after telling the positive and negative sides.

"That is, these two angels before teaching witchcraft must always remind that the science endangers salvation for both others and themselves" wrote Asrifin an-Nakhrowie in his book entitled "Witch & Witch & Clenic Shamanism".

Harut and Marut taught witchcraft in the Land of Babylon, often called the City of Babylon, a city located in the country of Iraq. The city sits on the banks of the Euphrates River, whose remains still exist today.

Dafiq Rohman in his book "Janibal Ma'rifat" some say that they are really angels and some argue that people who are viewed as godly like angels and others think two bad people who pretend to be godly like angels.

Harut and Marut are two names mentioned in the Qur'an and are also known in the stories of the ancients. In the verse that speaks of magic in the days of Prophet Sulayman 'alahissalam, Allah Ta'ala mentions the names Harut and Marut. Allah Ta'ala says:

And they followed what the demons read in the days of Solomon's kingdom. Solomon was not an infidel but the demons were infidels, they taught man magic and what was sent down to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut.

And they did not teach a man anything before saying, "We are only trials (for you), so do not disbelieve."

So they learned from both (the angel) what (can) separate a man (husband) from his wife. They cannot harm a person with their magic except with the permission of Allah.

They learn something harmful, and do not benefit them. And they know that whoever buys (using magic) will not profit in the Hereafter. And indeed, it is a very bad deed of those who sell themselves by magic, if they know. (QS Al-Baqarah :102)
