Duhai Atikah baby, I can't forget you as long as the sun is still shining
And as long as the beautiful pigeons still sound beautiful
Duhai Atikah, my heart all day and night
Always rely on yourself for the taste in the soul
I can't imagine someone like me divorcing someone like you today
Nor is a man like you divorced without fault
He is noble, intelligent, distinguished
And physical perfection wrapped in shame and honesty
Such is one of the sad verses of Abdullah bin Abu Bakr after his father told him to divorce his beloved wife, Atikah. Abdullah was in grief. Atikah, it really made him drunk.
Ibn Hajar in Al Ishobah tells the story of Abdullah and Atikah. Atikah is a beautiful woman. Not only that, he was also noble. His name was Atikah bint Zaid bin Amr. She was a woman of Quraysh, her sister Said bin Zaid, one of the 10 companions who were guaranteed to enter heaven in a hadith of the Prophet. Atikah was also the cousin of Umar ibn Khattab.
Atikah's personal beauty and nobility really bewitched Abdullah's heart. Seizing his whole soul. Hostage to all his wits. His days were just admiring Atikah. Her beauty, her jelly, and her noble adab. Atikah's love barely spared Abdullah's life, except admiring and dissolving in his love. Every day and every moment. “He (Atikah) busied him(Abdullah) from his wars,” wrote Imam Ibn Hajar.
Drunk by love, making Abdullah reluctant to engage in various expeditions carried out by the Muslims. This is what made Abu Bakr vent his anger, and told his son in words that the failure of Abdullah in da'wah had entered an alarming stage.
Abdullah doesn't care. In his mind there was only Atikah. Love has begun to turn into a dictator and begins to look haughty, forcing only him to be noticed and cared for. It even forced Abdullah to forget about various life obligations.
Abu Bakr asked Abdullah to divorce Atikah within three days of the order being issued. The father assumed only in that way Abdullah's life could be normal again. That order is not negotiable. As an obedient son, Abdullah obeyed his father's decree.
But Abdullah was devastated. Atikah has taken control of his heart. Every stroke of his disobedience was poured in a string of verses.
They said: divorce him and close his position
Settling with the hope of the soul against the dream of the sleeping person
Separated from the family I loved
The father knew what was going on, but he didn't care. Abu Bakr did not care that the love of the prince had rusted. It doesn't matter if the breakup is an impossibility. No matter whether sleep is no longer comfortable by the mess of love and longing. Because love has been selfish and haughty.
Abdullah has divorced Atikah. But Abdullah's heart was already imprinted in Atikah's love chamber. Can't move let alone get out. Abu Bakr one day heard Abdullah dissolve in a poem of sadness. Again, everything about Atikah.
Every word Abdullah tried to invite his father's sympathy. So deep is that love. When separated Abu Bakr hoped to be separated from that haughty love. But after being separated, Atikah's love has turned into a prison and shackles that make him unable to do anything.
Abdullah's heart suddenly narrowed. And only able to recite Atikah. Atikah was too perfect in Abdullah's eyes. Eventually Abu Bakr allowed his son to return to his wife.
Abdullah again shed his happiness in a beautiful strand,
Duhai Atikah, I have indeed divorced her
I have now returned on orders present
This is the decision of God who is present and goes
In humans, whether comfortable or not
My heart goes away every time I remember that goodbye
And my heart became calm again because God had brought it closer
Congratulations to you, I don't see his wrath
And you are getting special
You are one of those whom God has heeded
And no one can destroy something that God has heeded
When the Prophet learned of the matter, he annulled the divorce, and the two lovers were reunited. After that, Abdullah was very particular in keeping that his love for Atikah did not hinder his duty to Islam.
