Hudzaifah bin Al Yaman bin Husail bin Jabir bin Amr bin Rabi’ah bin Jarwah. His father, Husail, later known as al-Yaman, was a native of Makkah from Bani ‘Abbas. Hudhaifah bin al-Yemen is known as a person trusted by the Prophet Muhammad in keeping secrets and in investigating the problems that occurred.
Nisbat Al-Yemen is the name (laqab) for his father, but one source mentions Al-Yemen as the name of his grandfather, Jabir.
The origin of the title of Al-Yemeni to his father as described by Ibn al-Atsir in the book of Usdul Ghabah was due to his blood debt to his people, which forced him to leave his homeland, Mecca for Yathrib (Madinah).
Here, he sought the protection of the family of Bani Abdul Ashyal, friends of the Ansar and also swore allegiance to them in terms of ethnicity and kinship.
Since the events of Husail, Hudhaydah's father was called Al-Yaman, it was because he had sworn allegiance to Bani Abdil Ashal and had a pedigree from Yemen.
After reaching adulthood, Husayl married a woman from the tribe of Ashyal. From this marriage was born Hudzaifah ibn Husail, who later became better known as Hudzaifah ibn Al-Yemen.
With the birth of this son, the barrier to entering his city of Mecca was lost, so that he could now travel freely between Yathrib (Madinah) and Mecca, although he spent most of his time in Yathrib.
Husayl was one of the ten descendants of Bani Abbas who met the Prophet Muhammad SAW. This event occurred before the Prophet's migration to Medina in 622 AD. According to the nasab tradition prevailing in Arabia, the descendants of the father.
In Book “Complete History of Nabi” Companion Abdurrahman bin Abdul Karim Nabi, mentions that Hudhaifah bin Al Yemen was a Meccan who was born and raised in Medina.
Hudhaifah bin Al-Yemen was born into a Muslim family in the early days of Islam, and she converted to Islam before meeting the Prophet Muhammad in person. Unfortunately, the authors were unable to track exact data about the year of his birth.
However, if you look at the chronological data above, he was born before the Prophet's migration to Medina, because his father, Husail, claimed to believe in the Prophet Muhammad before the Hijrah.
While other data mention the year of his death, between 34 and 35 years or 656 AD, exactly 40 days after the tragic murder of his friend Uthman bin Affan, as recorded by Ibnul Atsir of Usdul Ghabah.
Like other friends, Hudzaifah bin Al Yaman narrates many hadiths from the Prophet SAW. Because of his personal and spiritual closeness to the Prophet Muhammad, this is what makes him receive many hadith stories from the Prophet Muhammad who are then narrated by other friends of the Prophet.
Some of the surnames recorded by Hudhaifah bin Al Yemen are Abu Ubaidah, his biological son, Umar bin Khattab, Ali bin Abi Talib, Qhais bin Abi Hazim, Abu Wail, and others, Zaid bin Wahab and others.
Khalid Muhammad Khalid in his book Characteristics of the Life of 60 Companions of the Prophet recorded information that Imam Bukhari in his Shahihnya narrated 8 Hadiths from Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen, and Imam Muslim narrated up to 12 Hadiths.
Other accounts also explain that Hudhaydah participated in the Battle of Uhud, and during that war, his father Husayl was unwittingly martyred by Muslim forces. Precisely because in this battle he was wearing a helmet so his friends thought he belonged to a group of polytheists.
The martyrdom of Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen itself was seen from afar by Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen himself, who saw a sword stab his father, and he shouted, “My father..! My dad…! No, he's my dad! However, God's Qadha’ happened, and when the companions realized what had happened, they could only remain silent in pain.
Knowing it was a mistake, Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen then said, “Prayal.May Allah forgive you, indeed my father is the best of mercy.”Join the War with Prophet Muhammad SAW
Hudhaifah bin Al Ayaman always accompanied him like a lover. Hudhayfa participated in every war he led, except in the Battle of Badr.
In the Battle of Uhud, Hudhayfa ibn al-Yemen fought the infidels along with his father, Al-Yaman. In that war, Hudzaifah got a big ordeal. He returned safely, but his father was martyred by the sword of the Muslims themselves, not the polytheists. The Muslims did not know that Al-Yaman was a part of them, so they killed him in the war.
Hudhaifah bin Al Yaman is a friend of Prophet Muhammad who has a special talent. One of Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen's abilities is to be able to read faces or in the language now called face mimic reading.
Even Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen can read a person's character at a glance. He knows the heart, ugliness and hypocrisy of others from afar.
Instead of using this power for evil, Hudhayfa used it to spread the religion of Islam and eliminate hypocrisy.
Khulafaur Rashidi Umar bin Khattab often asked Hudhaifah's opinion about the character of the officials and. When Hudzaifah was asked, she always answered honestly.
Because Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen is also responsible and very reliable in carrying out various tasks.
The ability to know the contents of the hearts of others makes Hudzaifah can be divided into four types of hearts, namely:
👉The closed heart, the heart of the infidel
👉The heart that refuses, the heart of the hypocrite
👉The heart is clean and in it there is a lamp that illuminates, so this is the heart of the believer
👉A heart that contains hypocrisy and faith.
One day Hudhaifah came to the Prophet. He immediately told the prophet that his tongue and words were sharp.
“Yes Allah's Apostle, I have a very sharp tongue for my family. I am very afraid this tongue will take me to Hell,” Hudzaifah said, as quoted in “Nabi SAW 60 Sahabat” biography by Khalid Muhammad Khalid. .
After hearing this speech, the Prophet reminded Hudzaifa to ask forgiveness to Allah SWT.
“Then where is your distance? Verily, I ask Allah for forgiveness a hundred times a day,” said the Prophet.
On different occasions, Hudzaifa bin Al Yemen received a special mission from the Prophet. In the midst of the Khandaq war, when the Quraysh and the Jews were allied, the Prophet wanted to know the condition of the enemy stronghold.
However, the weather at that time was very windy, dark, rumbling and also very gripping, while the friends at that time were in a state of hunger.
The Prophet called Hudzaifah for the difficult task of attacking the Quraish camp. Hudhaifah was able to do this and managed to infiltrate the Quraish camp.
After his mission was completed, Hudzaifah immediately relayed the information he received from the enemy camp to His Majesty.
Hudhaifah bin Al-Yemen also called for the fighting spirit of the Muslim army. Thanks to his skill and intelligence, the war ended in victory for the Muslims and defeat for the Persians.
During the reign of Umar's friend Hudzaifah bin Al-Yemen was appointed governor of Nahawand and remained there until his death. When he was seriously ill, which led to his death, some friends came to him in the middle of the night. Hudhaifah bin Al Yemen asked,
“Fajar is near.” Answer them.
“I take refuge in the Lord of dawn, who leads me to hell.” Hudzaifah said.
“Who among you brought the shroud?” ask Hudzaifah.
“Ya,” answer them.
“I do not need expensive shrouds, if I am good according to God's judgment, he will replace them with better shrouds for me.”
“But if I am not good in his eyes, he will remove the shroud from my body.” Khudzaifah said.
Then he prayed: “Yes Lord! You know that I prefer poor than rich, I prefer simple than rich, and I would rather die than live.”
After such prayer, Hudzaifah bin Al-Yemen died. May Allah Ta’ala keep His mercy. He died in the city of Mada’in in the year 35/36 Hijriyah, 40 days after the death of his friend Uthman bin Affan).
Abu Nasr as-Sarraj says in his book Al-Luma’fi At-Tashawwuf that among the companions of the Prophet there were those who received special knowledge that was only given to him.
These people included Sayyidina Ali bin Abu Talib ra and Hudhaifah . Ali bin Abu Talib once testified, “Rasulullah taught me seventy juz of knowledge that he never taught to anyone but me.”
Hudhaifah bin al-Yemeni temporarily received special information about the names of hypocrites, which was given to him only by the Prophet. To the extent that Umar bin Khattab RA once asked Hudzaifah, “Do I include them?”
The point of this story is that even Umar, who later became the second caliph, greatly appreciated the science of Hudhayfa and relied on it even to the extent of his knowledge.
There is a letter in the Qur’an called al-Munafiqun. It speaks of hypocrites. The same letter does not mention who it is.
About that man, the Prophet knew through the angel Gabriel. The Prophet then handed over a list of the names of the hypocrites who lived at that time only to Hudzaifa and asked her to never reveal those names to anyone.
About Umar's question above, Hudzaifah did not answer, he remained silent and did not move. Hudhaydah did not speak until his death. Hudzaifa is therefore called the secret guardian of the Prophet.
In 1932 AD, or 1351 Hijri, King Shah Faisal I of Iraq dreamed of being rebuked by Hudhaifah bin Al-Yemeni while scolding him and saying: 'The:
“Yes king! Take my corpse and Jabir al-Anshar (also one of the companions of the Prophet) the corpse from the banks of the Tigris river and then bury it again in a certain place, for my grave is now full of water; jabir's grave will also be filled with water.”
The same dream was repeated the following nights, but King Faisal I did not care about this dream, because he felt there was something else in his life that was far more important in the form of state affairs.
On the third night, Hudzaifah appeared in the dream of the Grand Mufti of Iraq. Hudzaifah said in a mufti dream:
“Two nights ago, I ordered the king to move his body, but he didn't seem to care. Tell the king that he wants a little compassionate to move our graves.”
Later, after discussing the matter, King Faisal, with the Prime Minister and Grand Mufti, intended to carry out this task.
The community was then informed that this plan would be implemented on the 10th day of Dzulhijjah after Dhuhur and Ashar prayers.
The tombs of the two companions of the Prophet were opened and their bodies (or perhaps their skeletons) were moved elsewhere. Because at that time the Hajj season, the pilgrims also gathered in the city of Mecca.
They asked King Faisal I for the excavation process to be postponed until they finished the hajj. Finally King Faisal agreed to suspend it until the 20th of Dzulhijjah.
After Dzuhur and Ashar prayers, on 20 Dzulhijjah in 1351 (Hijri) or 1932 AD, people came to the city of Baghdad. They are not only Muslims but also non-Muslims.
They gathered in the city of Baghdad until it was crowded. When Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen's grave was opened soon they saw that it was filled with water in it.
Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen's body was lifted by using a pulley very carefully so as not to be damaged and then the body that looked still very fresh was laid on a stretcher.
Then King Faisal and the Grand Mufti, The Prime Minister and Prince Faruq of Egypt had the honor of lifting the palanquin together and then putting the fresh body into a specially made glass coffin to store the bodies.
The body of Jabir bin Abdullah Al-Ansari was also moved to the coffin of the same glass in the same way with all his heart and with all his respect.
This amazing sight is now being seen by many men and women, young and old, poor and rich, Muslims and Non-Muslims. The two sacred bodies of the Prophet's true friends who are less known to Muslims seem still fresh and untouched by the bacteria decomposers in the slightest.
Both with open eyes looking ahead make the audience flabbergasted and can not close his mouth. Silence against blue. They couldn't believe what they saw that day.
In addition to his second body that looked fresh in shape; also the clothes they wore when buried were all intact and at a glance it was as if these two companions of the Prophet and the hero of Islam were still alive and just lying down.
Both of these bodies were eventually brought and reburied in a new grave not far from the grave of another true friend of the prophet, Salman Al-Farisi, located in Salman Park approximately 30 miles away from the city of Baghdad.
This miraculous event greatly attracted the admiration of scientists, philosophers, and doctors. Those who usually very often chirp provide analysis in accordance with their respective fields, this time subdued mute terkesima with a very rare event.
One of them was a physiologist from Germany who seemed very interested in this phenomenon. He was eager to see the condition of the bodies of the two companions of the Prophet who had been buried for approximately 1300 years.
Therefore, he immediately went to the Grand Mufti of Iraq. Arriving at the place where the great event took place, he immediately held the Mufti's hands tightly and said:
“Evidence moreover that can be more corroborating that Islam is true. I will now convert to Islam and please teach me about Islam”
A German doctor preached Islam in front of thousands of people who saw it. To see that many other Christians or Jews declared themselves to be Muslims at that time because they saw real evidence before them.
It's not the first or the last, though, because there are still many more Christians and Jews and other religions who quickly converted to Islam because they saw or heard miraculous events about the genzah Hudzaifah bin Al Yemen. Wallahua’lam!
