A Friend whose Salary Is Given to the Poor

Sa’id bin Amr is one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad SAW, who came from the Muhajirin and was born around 601 AD.

His story Sa’id bin Amir is not as popular as other Prophets, because he did not want to highlight his personality. But his story is etched beautifully in the history of great friends.

The story of Sa’id bin Amir who was never absent in all the struggles and jihad that faced Rasullullah SAW. And it has indeed become the archetype of the life of all Muslims.

It is not proper for a believer to stand idly by and not to participate in what the Prophet did, either in the arena of peace or in battle.

Likewise with the story of Sa’id bin Amir who embraced Islam not long after the liberation of Khaibar. And since then he embraced Islam and was bai’at directly by Rasullullah SAW.

Thus, his whole life and all his forms and ideals were given to the struggle of Islam with the Prophet.

When Amirul Mu’minin Umar bin Khattab recalled Mu’awiyah from his position as regent of Syria, he sought his successor.

Caliph Umar was very careful in choosing regional leaders. He realized that he was responsible before Allah SWT for the mistakes of the rulers he appointed.

For this reason, the criteria he uses to evaluate people and select government officials are very strict, and are based on sharp and flawless judgments such as his vision and insight.

It is known that Syria at that time was a modern and vast region, but life there followed a series of pre-Islamic civilizations. In addition, Syria is an important trading center and a good place to enjoy and this district is a land of temptation and stimulation.

Therefore, according to Umar, there is nothing worthy in this land except the guardians who are not deceived by Satan, the ascetics who love worship, submit to God, and protect yourself from God.

Suddenly Umar shouted. Shortly thereafter, Sa’id bin Amr came to Amirul Mu’minin and was offered the post of mayor.

Sa’id bin Amr, expressed his objection, saying, “don't until we are caught in slander, waha amrul mu’mini.!”.

“No, for God's sake I don't want to let you go!” Umar replied with a firm tone.

Until finally after a long time persuaded and convinced, with the words of Umar, Sa’id bin Amr then willing to accept the position.

It would be unfair for them to hang the duties and status of a caliph around his neck and leave him as a kala. Then who else would help Umar shoulder this very heavy responsibility? Sa’id bin Amr finally left for Homs. his wife went with him. Both are newlyweds.

Since childhood, his wife has been a very beautiful and intelligent woman. They were given enough Umar. When their position in Homs was established, the women intended to exercise their rights as wives in order to use the wealth Umar gave them. She suggested that her husband buy some decent clothes and household items and keep the rest.

Sa’id bin Amr said to his wife: “Will I show you something better than your plan? We are in a country where goods are traded and sold very quickly. So it is better that this treasure be entrusted to someone who will develop it as capital.”

“What if the deal goes awry?” ask wife. I went out and bought some very simple needs, and the rest was definitely enough, and gave them to the poor and needy.

Days passed and from time to time Sayid's wife asked her husband about the deal and when the profits would be shared.

Against all that, Sa’id bin Amr replied that their trade was going well while profits continued to rise.

One day his wife asked a similar question in front of relatives who knew the truth. Sa’id also smiled then laughed, raising doubts and suspicions from the women.

She asked her husband to speak frankly. So he told me that the treasure had been donated from the beginning.

The old woman also cried, and felt sorry for herself because her property was useless, and she did not buy the necessities of life, and had nothing left. Sa’id bin Amr looked at his wife in tears, adding regret and sorrow to her beauty and elegance.

And before the dazzling gaze touched him, Sa’id bin Amr turned his inner gaze to heaven, where his friend who went before him appeared, and he said: “For me God, God, I have a friend who found a way, redeemed himself from the world and everything in it!”

He said standing before his wife for fear of being tempted by their beauty, all would be bright, and their light would surely flood the sun and moon! In peace, I ended my speech with a smile and surrender.

His wife remained silent, knowing that there was nothing more important than self-control to follow in her husband's footsteps and imitate his asceticism and fearlessness.

But no matter how many of these Homs rebelled against their leader, against their godly servants like Sa’id son of Amr, their hearts were opened by Allah until they loved and obeyed him.

One day, Umar conveyed the news to Sa;id. “Maybe because I like to help and help them,” replied Sa’id.

How the people of Homs loved Sa’id bin Amr so much, but there were inevitable complaints and grievances. At least to prove that Homs is still a fierce rival of the Iraqi city of Kufa.

Once, when Amirul Muminin Umar bin Khattab visited Homs, he asked the gathered people, “What do you think of Sa’id bin Amr?”

Some people come to complain. However, there seems to be a blessing in the litigation, because in this way the personal greatness of our character is revealed from one side.

From the complaining group, Umar had them present their weaknesses one by one. So they came on behalf of the group and then they said, “There are four things we want to say. First, he met us after noon. Second, do not want to receive guests at night. Third, in one month, there are two days when he won't meet us, and there are other things that we think are very disturbing to us, yatu when he suddenly fell and fainted.

Umar ibn Khattab bowed for a while and whispered to Allah, “Yes Allah, I know that he is your best servant, and may the premonition of the servant against him not be missed.

Turn Sa’id bin Amr speaking: ‘I will be out during the day.’ As for their accusations about me, by the name of Allah I really do not want to mention them.

Since we had no kadam or servants in our family, I stirred the flour to harden it, toasted bread, and bathed for Dhuha prayers. After that, I went out to get it. ‘Umar's face beamed and he said, ‘Alhamdulillah, and what about the second one?’ So Sa’id bin Amr continued his conversation. So by God, I hate to mention the cause! ”

As for their saying that two days each month I do not meet them, so as I said before, I do not have a khadam to wash clothes, while my clothes are not much to replace. So I forced to wash it and wait for it to dry, until it can only come out in the evening.”

Then about their complaint that I fell unconscious at any time, because when in Mecca I had witnessed the fall of Khubaib al-Anshari.

His flesh was dismembered by the Quraysh and they took him on a stretcher as they asked him: `Will your place be filled by Muhammad in your place, while you are in good health?

Khubaib replied: By Allah I do not want to be in the environment of my wife's children overwhelmed by the pleasures and salvation of the world, while Rasullullah was struck by disaster, even if only by a prick of thorns though.”

So every memory of the event I witnessed, and at that time I was still in a state of idolatry, then remembered that I was holding my hands and did not want to lend a helping hand to Khubaib, he said, my body trembled for fear of the torment of Allah, until it was afflicted with the disease they said it was.”

Until there ended the words of Sa’id bin Amr, he let his lips wet with holy tears, flowing from his godly soul.

Hearing that Umar could no longer hold back and feel his curiosity, so he cried out because he was very happy: “Alhamdulillah, because with his taufiq My feeling did not miss!” Then embraced and hugged Sa’id, and kissed his noble forehead and shining light.

Meanwhile, even though Sa’id became Amir, of course the salary and allowance of Saeed bin Amir is quite high.

However, he only took it for himself and his wife, and the rest was distributed to other households and families in need.

One day, there was someone who advised him: “Take advantage of this wealth to make a living for your family and your wife's family!”.

Sa’id bin Amr said, “Why should I care more about my family and brother-in-law? I don't want to sell God's favor to the people I love!

Though it has long been advised to him: “Do not leave allowances for yourself and your family, use it to enjoy life!”.

However, Sa’id always repeated his words: “I do not want to miss the first group, which is after hearing the Prophet said: ‘Allah Azza wa Jalla will gather the people brought to the nant court in the afterlife there.

And in the year 20 H/641 A. D., with the cleanest sheets, the purest heart and with the brightest life, Said’id bin Amir, finally returned to His birth.

Thus the story and struggle of Sa’id bin Amr who always fragrant name especially among the caliphs and also friends of the Prophet.

In addition, it is important for us to know about how Said’ bin Amr who willingly never take his salary and give it to poor fair who are more in need. Perhaps if every leader in this country had the same nature as Said’ bin Amr, of course, the name of corruption, collusion and nepotism would be in itself gone. Wallahua’lam!
