Ammar bin Yasir was the son of Sumayyah bint Khayyat and Yasir bin Amir, who were among the earliest converts to Islam, as were the devout men instructed by Allah.
They suffered enough from the torment and cruelty of the Quraysh. Regarding their torture, the disbelievers of Quraysh surrendered to the Children of Makhzum.
Every day Yasir, Sumayyah and Ammar ibn Yasir were brought to the desert of Makkah, where they were wracked with doom and torment.
These terrible noble sacrifices are like a collision that will ensure the survival of religion and aqidah as a firmness that will not be weathered.
Sumayyah had shown a formidable attitude and stance. An attitude that has made her an exemplary woman for believers in every age. The suffering and experience of Sumayyah from this torment was terrifying.
So Sumayyah, Yasir and Ammar were among the extraordinary people who obtained this blessing. By their sacrifice, perseverance and tenacity it can strengthen the greatness and immortality of Islam.
The Prophet of the SAW visited every day to the place where the family of Ammar bin Yasir was tortured, admiring his fortitude and heroism. One day when the Prophet of Allah, visiting them, Ammar called him and said, “O Prophet, the punishment we suffered has reached the top. Then cried the Prophet.
It means: “Patience the family of Yasir because your return is heaven.”
The word he conveyed was not merely a mere amusement, but actually acknowledging the reality he knew and corroborating the facts he saw and witnessed.24 What was the secret of the family of Ammar the son of Yasir, so that Allah and His Messenger paid great attention to him and promised him heaven.
Ammar bin Yasir bin Amir was a friend of the Prophet who came from the tribe of Madzhaji descendants of Bani Unsi. His father was Yasir bin Amir bin Malik bin Kinanah and his mother was Sumayyah bint Khayath, the first martyr in Islam. Amar was called Abu al-Yaqzhan.
Abu Al Yaqdzan Al-Anasi Al-Makki was known as a high priest, who was also a servant of the children of Makhzum. He was the first to convert to Islam and the leader in the battle of Badr.
Ibn Sa’ad said, “Ammar's parents, Yasir bin Amir and his two brothers named Al-Harith and Malik came from Yemen to Makkah to find their brother. After that, his two brothers returned to Yemen, but Yasir stayed.
Yasir then served Abu Hudhaifah bin Al-Mughirah bin Abdullah bin Amr bin Makhzum, and Abu Hudhaifah married him to Sumayyah bint Khayath who was a slave of his.
Shortly after his acquittal, Abu Hudzaidah died. Yasir was blessed with a son named Ammar and when Allah sent down the religion of Islam, Ammar and his parents and brother, Abdullah, embraced Islam.
Narrated from Abdullah bin Salimah, he said “I saw Ammar bin Yasir at the time of the shiffin war, he looked like a quiet and tall shaykh.
He also carried a spear in hand that would be used to attack. Ammar bin Yasir said, “Oath, I have used this spear to fight with the Prophet three times and this is the fourth. If they attack us to break our ranks, then we are aware that we are on the right path and they are on the wrong path.”
From this history it can be concluded that Ammar bin Yasir has a high posture and has a calm character.
Narrated from Abu Al-Ghadiyah, he said, “I've heard Ammar bin Yasir denounce Uthman, then I threatened him to kill him. When he led the Islamic army in the shiffin war, then someone said that this was Ammar, then I stabbed him in the knee until he fell, then I killed him.”
There are also those who argue that Ammar bin Yasir was killed. When Amru ibn al-Ash was told, he said, “I heard the Prophet SAW, saying, “the murderer and his persecutor went to hell”. Ammar died at the age of 93.
The story of Ammar bin Yasir, started when Ammar's father left his country in Yemen to find and meet one of his brothers. He apparently agreed and felt comfortable living in Mecca. He settled there and made a friendship treaty with Abu Hudzaifah ibnul Mughirah.
Abu Hudzaifah married one of his best friends named Sumayyah bint Khayyath and from that marriage the couple had a son named Ammar.
They belong to the Assabiqunal Awwalun (first generation) group. And like the pious people who were among the first to convert to Islam, they suffered enough from the torment and cruelty of the Quraysh.
The Quraysh conducted an investigation of the Muslims according to the situation and circumstances. If these people are noble and influential, they face threats and bluffs. And after that they started a very fierce nerve war against him.
And if a believer is low and poor among the inhabitants of Mecca or of the slaves, he will be beaten and burned.
Therefore the Yasir family belonged to this second group. And their torturous affairs were handed over to the Bani Makhzum. Every day, Sumayyah and Ammar ibn Yasir were taken to the hot desert of Makkah, where they were persecuted with punishment and torture.
Sumayyah's suffering and experience of torment were terrible and terrible, but Sumayyah showed a harsh attitude and attitude from beginning to end, to show humanity an honor that never fades and an honor whose prestige never fades.
The Prophet SAW always visited places that he knew as places of torture from the Yasir family. Back then, he did not have to face danger and defend himself.
This great noble sacrifice is like a sacrifice that guarantees unwavering security for religion and faith. He is also a model who fills the hearts of believers with grace, pride and compassion. It is the tower that guides future generations to achieve the essence of religion, truth and greatness.
Likewise, the word of Allah in the Qur’an to the Muslims is not just one or two verses.
Allah's Word SWT: “Do people think that they will be left to say: “We have faith” when they have not yet been tested?” (QS Al-Angur: 2)
“Do you think you will be able to enter heaven, but it is not yet proven to Allah that those who fight among you, as well as those who are steadfast?” (QS Ali Imran: 142)
“Really, We have tested the people before them, until they have proved to Allah the truthful and proved the liars.” (QS Al-Angur: 3)
In fact, the Qur’an teaches its followers that sacrifice is the core of faith. And this heroism in the face of cruelty and violence is balanced with perseverance, fortitude and perseverance.
So Sumayyah, Yasir and Amar are extraordinary people who have this blessing. When the Messenger of Allah SAW visited them one day, Amarr said, The Prophet SAW said:
The torture of Ammar bin Yasir is described in several stories by his friends. Amar bin Hakam said: “Ammar was tortured until he did not understand what he said.”
Ammar ibn Maimun described the story that: “The polytheists burned Ammar ibn Yasir with fire. Then the Prophet passed by while holding his head and said: “O fire, be cold and cold in Amar's body, as before you were cold and cold in Ibrahim's body!
All these calamities could not strangle Ammar's soul, though they weighed down his back and weakened his energy. He felt really miserable only when one day the whip and its persecutors used all means to release his tyranny and horror, from being burned with hot iron, he said, crucified on the hot sand with red coal, to be doused with water until he was suffocated and peeled off his skin with wounds.
On another occasion, he lost consciousness due to such severe suffering, people said to him: “Worship our gods!”
Ammar bin Yasir followed their orders without understanding what came out of his lips. After regaining consciousness for a moment due to the cessation of the torment, he suddenly realized what he had said, causing him to lose his mind and imagine how great a mistake he had made, he said, great sin that cannot be redeemed and forgiven again. .
When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) met his friend, he found her in tears, so he wiped his tears with his hands and said: “These infidels tormented you and drowned you until you said this and that?”
“True, O RasuIullah,” said Ammar bin Yasir.
The Prophet smiled saying, “If they force you again, it's fine, say as you said earlier!”
Then the Prophet recited to him the following glorious verse: “Unless one is forced, while his heart remains firm in faith..” (QS An-Nahl: 106).
Ammar returned overwhelmed by the calm and the wail of his body. He no longer felt pain. Soul calm. He faced the trials and torments with great fortitude, until his captors were weary and weak, bowing their knees before the walls of faith so solid.
After the Prophet of Islam SAW to Medina, the Muslims lived with him settled there, as soon as the Islamic community was formed and completed the line. So in the midst of this believing Islamic society, Ammar bin Yasir also gained a high position. The Prophet was very dear to him, and he often prided himself on the faith and piety of Ammar ibn Yasir to the Companions.
The Prophet said: “Ammar full of faith up to his back!”
And when there was a dispute between Khalid bin Walid and Ammar, the Prophet said: “Whoever is hostile to Amar, then he is an enemy of Allah. And whoever hates Amar, Allah hates him!”
So the soldier Khalid bin Walid had no choice but to immediately go to Ammar bin Yasir to admit his mistake and ask for forgiveness.
If the Prophet SAW has expressed his love for a Muslim in this way, his faith, love, and devotion to Islam, greatness of soul and sincerity, and moral nobility will reach the limit and the peak of perfection.
That is the story of Ammar ibn Yasir, therefore, God gave Ammar a worthy reward for his blessing and guidance and fully appreciated his kindness. Due to the level of leadership and faith he achieved, the Prophet declared the purity of his faith and set himself up as an example for the Companions.
He said: “Take an example and follow after my death, Abu Bakr and Umar. And follow the instructions that Ammar ibn Yasir gave you!”
When the Prophet and the Muslims built a mosque in Medina, he took part in lifting stones and doing the most difficult work. Ammar bin Yasir is seen lifting a large rock in the middle of the crowd that moves back and forth.
The Prophet saw Amar and came to him immediately. As he approached, he fanned the dust covering Ammar's head with his hands and said in front of all his companions: “Unfortunately, Ibn Sumayyah killed him from among the ungodly!”
The Messenger of Allah repeated these words once more, while Ammar worked to destroy the wall until some of his friends thought he was dead, and therefore the Messenger lamented his death.
The companions were surprised and worried about this, but the Prophet explained in a calm and confident voice: “No, Ammar is fine. Only then would the dissident group kill him!”
Ammar listened to the prophecy and believed in the truth of the Prophet's revelation. But he was not afraid because after converting to Islam he had to face death and martyrdom at all times, day and night.
Ammar always joined the Prophet in all battles and armed conflicts and in Badr, Uhud, Khandaq and Tabuk. And when the Prophet died, the struggle of Ammar did not cease. He fought and tried to defend the religion of God.
When conflict arose between Caliph Ali ibn Abi Talib and Muawiyah, Ammar stood beside the Prophet's son-in-law. Not for fanaticism or for taking sides, but for obeying the truth and keeping promises! Ali ibn Abi Talib was the caliph of the Muslims and was entitled to take an oath of allegiance as the leader of the nation.
When the terrible Shiffin War begins, Ammar follows. At that time, he reached 93 years old. The people on Muawiyah's side tried their hardest to avoid Amar, lest their swords cause his death before he became a disobedient group.
But the heroism of Ammar, who fought like an army, took their decisions and prudence. So some of Muawiyah's men were waiting for a chance to defeat him. Until the opportunity opens, they kill Ammar.
So now tell the people who this group of dissidents was, that is, the group that killed Ammar, who was none other than Muawiyah's side!
The body of Ammar bin Yassir was then laid on the lap of Caliph Ali, taken to a place of prayer with the Muslims, then buried with his clothes.
After that, the friends got together and talked. One of them said: “Did you remember that afternoon in Medina when we were sitting with the Prophet, saw, and suddenly his face shone and he said: 'Well:
“Sky misses Warning?”
“Indeed,” answer another
“And at that time he called out other names including Ali, Salman and Bilal.” another said.
If so, heaven really misses Ammar. And if so, the heavens longed for him, while his longing was delayed, waiting for Ammar ibn Yasir to fulfill his duties and responsibilities. And he has fulfilled his duty and fulfilled it with a happy heart. Wallahua’lam!
