
Discussing the biography of Abu Darda’ who was a friend of the narrator of hadith from among anshar. He was a friend who followed all the wars that had occurred during his life with the Prophet.
Abu Darda’ has the full name of Uwaimir bin Zaid bin Qais, a friend of the hadith narrator from Anshar, from the Khajraj tribe, he memorized the Quran from the Prophet Shallallahu alaihi wassalam. In the war Uhud the Prophet said about himself“ The best cavalryman is Uwaimir” He was equated by the Prophet with Salman Al Farisi.
During the reign of Caliph Uthman, Abu Darda’ was appointed Judge in the area of Sham, He was mufti (giver of fatwa) residents of Sham and Fiqh experts of the Palestinian population.
He narrated the hadiths of Sayyidah Aisyah and Zaid bin Tsabit, while those narrated from him were his own son Bilal and his wife Umm Darda’. The hadith he narrated reached 179 hadiths. About him Masruq said:” I got the knowledge of Prophet Shallallah alaihi wassalam on six of them from Abu Darda’ “. He died in 32 A. D. in Dasmaskus.
One day his brother Abdullah bin Rawahah came to destroy the idols and banish them. Seeing his idol disappear, Abu Darda’ was angry and wanted to avenge Abdullah's actions. But suddenly Abu Darda’ realized and got guidance from Allah SWT. He realized that idols could not protect him and helped him from Abdullah. He also believed in God and became a follower of the Prophet.
Abu Darda’ a successful businessman left his job to worship to Allah SWT. “I converted to Islam in the presence of Prophet Muhammad SAW and I am a businessman.
I wanted to combine business and worship, but I did not succeed. So I left the business and concentrated on worship,” Abu Darda’ said. From 60 Companions of the Prophet SAW by Khalid Muhammad Khalid.
After accepting Islam, Abu Darda’ never stopped learning. He thinks and always thinks. Abu Darda’ studied to the Prophet Muhammad SAW to become a wise man. In the time of the Prophet, the opinion of the wise man Abu Darda’ became the Islamic belief. He always demands kindness.
However, suddenly Abu Darda’ realized and got guidance from Allah SWT. He realized the idol was unable to defend him and helped him from Abdullah. He also believed in Allah and became a follower of the Messenger of Allah.
Abu Darda’ who is a successful trader also left his job in order to worship to Allah SWT.
“I converted to Islam in the presence of Prophet Muhammad SAW and I am a merchant. I wanted to combine trade with worship, but to no avail. Therefore, I left the trade and focus on worship,” said Abu Darda’, quoted from Biography 60 Sahabat Rasulullah SAW by Khalid Muhammad Khalid.
Since embracing Islam, Abu Darda never stopped learning. He always looks and thinks. Abu Darda studied the Prophet Muhammad SAW until he became a master of wisdom.
In the time of the Prophet, the opinion of Abu Darda the expert wisdom became the grip of Muslims. He always calls for good.
“Do not eat, except the good. Do not work except the good, and eat not except the good,” Abu Darda said.
During the time of Caliph Usman bin Affan, Abu Darda was believed to be a judge in Sham. He became a respected judge.
“Do not charge to humans who are not actually charged to them! Do not beat people before their Lord,” said Abu Darda.
In upholding the truth, Abu Darda never hated anyone. To him, everyone is a brother.
Once Abu Darda met a sinful man. Everyone chided him, except Abu Darda.
“I just hate what he did. If he abandons the deed, he is my brother,” Abu Darda said.
Caliph Umar bin Khattab visited Abu Darda's house in Sham. Umar came to him to inquire about the living conditions of Abu Darda in the area.
Upon arrival, Abu Darda's house was unlocked. Then Caliph Umar entered and in it was very dark, Hearing the voice of Umar, Abu Darda stood up and approached his guest.
Umar bin Khattab was moved and worried to see his friend's condition, however, he realized that Abu Darda lived a life of emigrants, who were, and in his life he almost completely abandoned the life of the world and the luxury of life that was considered mortal.
Both were involved in serious discussions, both of which discussed religious issues, the constitution and other issues. Umar bin Khattab asked Abu Darda, whose knowledge was like water in the vast ocean.
Because it was dark inside the house, none of them could see the faces of the two, only their voices could be heard. In this state, Umar was curious and then felt the seat of Abu Darda.
It should be just a hard saddle. He also covered the case of Abu Darda sleeping which is said to only contain sand.
Furthermore, Umar bin Khattab also touched the blanket and it turned out that the blanket was only made of thin fabric and not enough to be used in winter.
The condition made Umar flabbergasted as well as admiring the life of Abu Darda. He was a truly devout Muslim who no longer needed this world.
“May Allah bestow His mercy upon you. Will you help me? Would you like me to send something to expand your life?” '' Umar bin Khattab said politely and politely.
Abu Darda’ then smiled as he replied, “Did you remember Umar a hadith that the Prophet delivered to us?
“Hadits what?” ask Umar bin Khattab.
Abu Darda replied, “Didn't the Prophet have said, “Must the apex of one of you about the world, such as the supply of a rider (i.e., to taste and potency).”
“Yes, I remember,” said Umar bin Khattab.
“Well, what have we done since his death?” abu Darda asked Umar bin Khattab, who was bowing his head.
The words of Abu Darda really touched the heart of Umar bin Khattab. Shown again how the life of the Prophet at the time he was still living in the midst of Muslims. The poverty of his life is almost none of them. All the actions of the Prophet were clearly reflected back in his eyes.
Finally, Umar bin Khattab was no longer able to withstand the turmoil of his soul that night. He sobbed followed by Abu Darda’.
And so, the two friends wept full of sadness, his soul shattered beyond measure. The more he thought of the Prophet, the more his heart grew. They both cried until dawn. The world they were in was like it was no longer felt.
