Chap 18 - Archery

Lug and Vans' journey is almost over. They had now arrived before the towering royal gate, its walls stretching so wide as to protect the entire kingdom's vast territory to the hundreds of hypagrites.

Note :

(1 hypagrite \= 1000 regrit)

Lug and his father were greeted by a dozen gatekeepers dressed in armor, steel shields, and long spears. The wall that closes the top of the gate, above which many pass by gate guards who monitor the visitors carefully. The views of the soldiers were so sharp, as if they were saying that they would kill anyone of any kind.

After they finished inspecting Vans' luggage, they asked what all the swords inside the pedicure needed to do.

"That's all an order from the military academy." Answer Vans.

The guards began to inspect the sword and several other weapons. Then they let the Vans and Lugs in without much to take care of. They already knew that the military academy needed additional stockpiles of weapons.

Lug was a little afraid that the gatekeepers did not believe his father's words. They were completely expressionless, making their faces frightening and difficult to guess. Even they did not speak inwardly either, it made Lug even more confused. But he was convinced that the soldier had been trained physically as well as mentally. "Dad, how could the royal military academy know that father is a forger? We are from a remote village that even the people from the kingdom don't want to know about us" asked Lug curiously.

Vans turned his head towards his son who was sitting inside the pedati, "Dad has a friend who used to be one of the disciples of the royal magic academy," he said. "He now works in the military academy."

"So he ordered this?"

"Yes" Vans nodded. They resumed their journey and headed to the military academy.

On the way, Lug saw many magnificent buildings. Even the shop that was on the outskirts of the road was more luxurious than where he lived. Even so, Lug's gaze was only limited to being amazed by the shape of the magnificent building. Lug had no interest in anything else, and he clearly knew that the daily income of the family within the kingdom was more than the monthly income of the people from the remote countryside. It was a natural thing and did not surprise Lug.

Not only shops that look good and neat, even the road that is being passed is composed of thousands of quality concrete and very good for vehicles to pass. Not like the village of Nedhen whose roads are not flattened and even overgrown with wild grass or reeds

"Dad," Lug called. "Have you ever been here before? I see you're so familiar in this town."

"Yes, you used to go to the royal city." Vans replied, then he was silent for a moment and sighed. "Well, that's the past" he added.

Lug knows his father has a problem he doesn't want to reveal. Therefore Lug does not want to bring it up and look deeper about it, which there will make Vans sad. The middle-aged man looked down and looked at the horse he was riding with a blank look.

*****

A large building, built with pillar pillars arranged into a wall–like like the Colosseum. The building was up to 7 regrit tall, standing very sturdy. There was the sound of screaming from within, their voices were very loud and heavy. Lug and Vans were standing on the front porch of his gate which was quite large. It was guarded by two soldiers who were the same as the royal gate guards.

Then Vans got off his horse and spoke to the two soldiers. He gave a letter in the form of a worn cloth rolled up in such a way. The two soldiers received it, then read the contents of the letter.

Lug actually doesn't like them. Their looks were extremely rough, as if they were born from a gigantic machine that printed an expressionless coarse human. Yeah, that giant machine is right in front of Lug right now. It was the royal military academy that was currently training many youths to train to become military.

After that, the soldiers rolled back the letter and gave it to Vans. "Alright," said the soldier. "We're gonna bring all this inside. For the payment problem, you guys just wait here. There'll be someone to meet you."

The other soldier immediately rode on the horse that pulled the pedati, then took it in through another larger door. And the soldier who read the letter just now also came in.

Lug looked seriously. They had absolutely no ill intentions of carrying those items without paying. "Dad, do you think they're trustworthy?"

Vans gulped. "Come," he said. "But if we don't believe it, we'll get a bad surprise."

It was because not trusting the people from the kingdom was the same as betraying. It was not a real decree, only that some families who became the top officials of the kingdom set it to reduce the number of betrayals that were increasingly widespread. Some even did it openly before, so the noble families formed a new policy, although not an official policy. And not many people know that the policy is not official.

Moments later there was a curly-haired man who extended to a shoulder, his front hair framed on his face. Wearing a thin black suit that has two pockets, and underneath there are more pockets. The shirt she wore was a plain gray t-shirt that was very tangled and filled with mud stains. It was like just washing with water, jeans that were not too tight brown, and black boots that were filled with mud stains, like really just coming out of a mud pit.

"Hi, Avan," Vans said hello. "During your absence, how are you?"

The man named Avan replied with a fake smile that was quite stiff. But he's still being okay. "I'm good, how about you?"

"I'm good too."

Avan's gaze was thrown at Lug, then frowned. "He's your son?"

"Yes, why?"

Avan shakes. "There's nothing" he answered. "He has a very good physique. She was so young."

Lug felt that there was something strange about the man. It was because it was as if the man named Avan was like knowing Lug. And sure enough, when Avan spoke to himself in his heart, Lug heard something. It made him know who the man was and it was connected to an incident.

"Dad," Lug called. "I want to go, very boring here. I think we'll be taxed if we keep standing here."

Avan narrowed his eyes, the sentence as if it had been poking him. His eyes returned to Vans. "Your son is acting like an adult" Avan said. "What does he know about taxes?"

"His name is also a child" Vans chimed in. "They just want to express themselves. You must have been, like to get attention, that's how a kid is." And then Vans let Lug go, he thought his son wanted to play. But it was actually not the right thing to leave his own father in a place like this. Lug did not just leave his father, obviously he just went around - in a place where his Heaven's Vision and World's Vision could still watch over his father.

"But" said Vans. "My son doesn't usually behave like that. Yeah, I know he's a kid, but he's not usually like that."

"Little children are still small children" Avan said.

Turning on Lug, he took a walk around and looked for something to buy. Previously Vans gave him money to buy something, only 25 silver coins. There Lug saw many items sold in the form of food, magic crystals, and other items. There was an object that interested Lug, but the price was even more than ten times the price of his father's sword. It was a rhyme stone, a stone that had a flaming magic engraving with ancient writing. It has the use to improve the understanding of magic, so mastery of magic learned will be much easier. And that's permanent.

And Lug arrived somewhere quite crowded. There some people are seen shooting a circle board that is swung in the middle of a wooden block that both legs are enforced to form the letter n. Lug was interested, "May you go there too." Lug heading to the archery. There is very crowded, so even Lug to jostle just to queue.

"Hey, move aside you village boy!"

"Currently, you're queuing up in front of me, it's inappropriate. Move aside! Let me be the one at your place."

Lug gets a lot of scorn from people. But he just kept quiet and thought all those words were just a traffic. It was just that there was a person playing rough, he gripped Lug's shoulder very hard, but the boy did not budge at all. Until the person who gripped his shoulder was in pain himself. His hand was cramping because Lug's shoulder was too hard.

"This boy-he ... Forget that! Is he a statue?!" Trying to resist the embarrassment of not being able to make Lug leave, someone wearing an elegant white shirt tried to throw away his face.

"Your words have a point too."

People knew that the tall man wearing white clothes only wanted to divert the conversation. But they ignored him, even more berating Lug arbitrarily.

And Lug also heard all their sayings. Whahuh? Afraid? Nah! I was just thinking of letting you guys. My parents will get in trouble if I follow your actions. Besides, you guys look like village boys who just saw a dog barking. Lug still continues to get scolding until finally his turn arrives.

"25 silver coins" said someone guarding a long line behind Lug.

Oh, come ... Why so expensive? I knew it would be this expensive, but why would it be so expensive? The meat Teressa sold alone was only ten silver coins, the Inner Lug. Then he got a bow and three arrows.

"What do you want?" asked a man with a mustache beside Lug who suddenly came over in surprise. The man was no taller than his father, wearing luxurious clothes such as a black suit, black shirt and black jeans that were not too tight. All of those clothes were considered luxurious to some locals. But the boy was not surprised at all.

At that time Lug saw so many items on a large board table that was terraced and hung a small board on each level. The item below has a token depicting a star, which means having to win one archery. Likewise with tokens in the second and third levels whose stars increase.

In one star, there were many useless items like padded cloth dolls costing 15 to 20 silver coins. Yes, the quality is obviously bad because the price is cheap with a kind of soft cloth doll. On the two-star level there are several magic accessories such as a jewel necklace, a jewel ring, or a knit bandana. It's not all for magic! But just to show off, it might cost 30 to 45 silver coins. It was quite expensive for such an imitation item. And there are also some other objects in the two stars. At the three-star level there were some magic materials, it could be used to forge magic weapons.

Then Lug glanced at a table that contained a triangular board that said special items. Lug was a little interested in the thing on the table. "Gift is there, how do I get it?" tanyakanya.

Before replying, the man in black suit glanced at the table in question. "You want to get it?" ask the man. "If you can hit it three times in a row, you get one more chance."

Then the man pointed to a spinning plank wheel with a blue color that almost filled it, and a very very thin red color at half its diameter only, so thin it was even the same as the width of Lug–'s fingers not even wider than his thumb. The wheel spun so fast that even the eyes of ordinary people were hard to keep up with. "Those red fields are with additional arrows!" said the man who pointed at the wheel. "If you can hit it, you'll get that special gift.

Interesting, Inner Lug.

There are only three special gifts. The first is a long sword with a black handle and a white and rather thick sword eye, at the end of the handle hanging a chain that has a hanger in the form of a dark silver skull. The rim of his sword eye was jagged and lit, in the middle of which was a cavity separating the upper and lower sword eyes, and also in the cavity was a long needle that was even longer than his sword, bright blue with a bright white light. Then there is also a gold coin that looks ordinary. Engraved an unknown symbol–the symbol is like two wavy lines. The gold color of the coin is very tangled and filled with various scratches around the symbol. And the last one is a pitch-black cube. There were no striking characteristics of the object and only a cube that was pitch black.

It also happens that Lug knows the truth hidden from the three gifts. Lug knew that the black cube was an ancient artifact that people rarely knew about. But it was just a relic artifact of someone who might have barely functioned.

Of the three special gifts, Lug is only interested in one object. Even though he knew that all the gifts were not imitations aka imitation materials–all of them were real.

"You're just asking!" yell at a child who is waiting in line. This boy looks a little older than Lug. "Well, can you shoot accurately?"

Then the man in black who was watching the queue chimed in, "Nobody knows." He shrugged his shoulders. "In addition, the rules should not use magic, regardless of the type. Only rely on each other's skills and abilities."

Then Lug started to lift his bow. His gaze shifted on the child who was criticizing him just now. "We'll see!" And the boy he looked at shrugged his shoulders and laughed.

"You're funny."

Lug also pulled the bowstring along with his arrows. His eyes are very sharp. His breath was very smooth and calm. The people who saw him only underestimated him while gulping. Lug's eyes seemed to sparkle within the endless darkness. His calmness broke the crowd, as if he had not seen or even considered those around him to be non-existent.

Then Lug felt confident and let go of her pull.

WHUUUSH

The arrows shot out so fast. Sticking right at a moving target swinging around. Hundreds of eyes stared at him, in their hearts it was incredible. But people held back their amazement, letting prestige rule their hearts. Pretty good, maybe luck!

"It was just a coincidence!" said the boy again.

"Yes, it's just a coincidence."

"He's just lucky to get over it."

People agree. Instead of praising them, they cursed the successful Lug on his first try. The black-clothed man guarding the queue could only fall silent while looking at a child carrying his archery.

Then someone wearing a dirty white shirt and a tangled cloth took an arrow that stuck to a wooden board, then swung it even faster. Lug pulled out his second arrow. The people in line still haven't stopped scolding her.

WHUUUSH

The second arrow managed to punch it perfectly like before. Lug still works to this day. People began to doubt that Lug was just relying on his luck. But their prestige was higher than his doubts.

"Fortunately that boy."

"Yes, he's just lucky. And it just so happens that it could fit her."

People still cursing at Lug. It's just that the little boy who had blasphemed him was now silent and could only grit his teeth.–t dare to say a word.

And now there's still the last arrow left. Lug had drawn the arrows, people were waiting for him to release his arrows, their hearts were pounding. So stressful.

But with his ease, Lug smiled. He stared at the people who were looking at him so enthusiastically. They replied to him with a very rude slur.

"ARE YOU SMILING SMILE?"

"SEE THAT! LOOK IN FRONT OF YOU!"

"YOU DEFINITELY CAN'T SHOOT PROPERLY FOR THIS LAST ONE!"

The arrow shot.

WHUUUSH

Without seeing the target, Lug released the pull of her arrow. And quickly the arrow shot and managed to hit the rapidly swinging circle board. Those who watched it were more amazed, even though their prestige was so high that it made him speechless. They just kept quiet while looking at how Lug boasted of herself–pumped her waist.

But it was only the shadow of the audience. What actually happened was that Lug was still very focused on what was in front of him.
