The Bridge of Satan

The Bridge of Satan
Grandpa's Message

Kingggg! kringgg!

Finally the school bell I was waiting for arrived as well. I have to go home and listen to Grandpa's story when I get home. I also immediately cleaned up the books and stationery I used to study into my bag. At exactly 3pm, it was our school time.

Because the school is in the middle of the forest, it looks darker because of the little sunlight that enters. I immediately went and said goodbye to my friends as usual as soon as school came home.

"Hey, do you know why Dawn always hastily returns home?" said Bagas who was confused and curious about what I was doing.

"If you're wondering why not just ask the guy directly?" say Grace while getting ready to go home.

"Maybe Agus knows, because he was eaten by his friend since childhood" continued Lilis.

"yes too! I'm actually curious, too. So, Agus... do you know what he does every day when he comes home from school?" said Anis who suddenly joined in their conversation.

"Hmm..if not wrong, Dawn once told me that he was interested in the story of the devil's bridge. So he went home and asked his grandfather to tell him " Agus said as he scratched his head.

"Huh? it's strange that he's interested in the same story about the bridge" Anis said, frowning as if he was thinking hard.

"Well, although rumors about the bridge are being discussed in the village because of the disappearance of Mr. Budi. But actually, what does he want to know?" said Wawan who joined after finishing the picket.

Then my friends fell silent and thought of my reason for being interested in the story of the demon bridge. Actually my reason is simple, because grandfather is the oldest resident of this village and has a story that no one else knows about the bridge.

So I took the best of my time with my grandfather as long as he was alive about the bridge. Because of the bridge, the villagers were frightened and always restless. And so do my friends who are cowards because of it. I just want life in this village to be normal, without fear and anxiety, that's all.

Then I was in front of my house, "Kakeeeeeek!" my screams were immediately galloped to meet the grandfather who was always in his room.

Cklek! I opened the door to Grandfather's room slowly so as not to disturb him.

"Grandfather of Dawn!" said the grandfather who welcomed me by extending his hands asking me to hug him. I immediately took off the bag I was carrying on my shoulder and hugged Grandpa happily.

My grandfather was the person I loved the most, I was lucky to have a good grandfather. I am also very grateful that my grandfather was always in good health and never sick. Though it should be in his old age is currently vulnerable to disease. But my grandfather was never sick and always healthy and always showed his smile.

But. even though grandfather is healthy and always smiles like this. For some reason I feel that grandfather is a fragile person, grandfather looks like he is always sad and he always covers up his sadness by showing me his smile. Sometimes I peek into my grandfather's room.

I saw my grandfather keep looking at the window outside and sometimes holding a picture of my grandfather when I was young together with my grandmother. Grandfather continued to look at the photo for a very long time with an empty expression. Even if I see it, I immediately know what my grandfather's heart was at that time, if grandfather misses grandma very much.

But grandfather never once cried or showed his sad expression either when staring at his picture or when staring at the window of his room. His expressionless face always appeared when grandfather was alone. I don't know what he was thinking and it made me change my mind that Grandpa really wanted to see Grandma again.

It feels like there's something else that grandpa wants to do, I don't know. It turned out that I really didn't know a single bit about grandfather. Though I always thought I was the most understanding person compared to my father whose son is grandfather. But I was wrong, apparently no one understood the contents of my grandfather's heart.

"A-what's up... ka-grandpa!?" my stammered words.

"Grandfather will only tell you this once. So Dawn must remember it well." said my grandfather who began to seriously.

Meanwhile my father and mother were working in the rice fields and they were currently sitting in a tent made of wood in the middle of the rice fields. My father and mother were farmers in this village, well, because this is the only income in this village. My father, who used to be an office person who worked in the city, now continues his life as a farmer along with his loved ones.

"Bah.. This is to eat first." said my mother named Siti. My mother gave home cooking to my father.

"Yes, thank you mah. mamah also eat first, must be tired because of helping papah from earlier" said my father who loved my mother so much with all his love.

"Yes pah.." said my shy mother.

"Mah! it's 3 o'clock, right!? then come home first, Mah!" said my father who immediately put his food back and hurriedly went through the fields.

"Bah! papahs! wait!" said my mother who tried to stop my father's steps with her words.

Meanwhile my friends who had just come home from school after thinking about me. Meet my father who was running out of the rice fields when they were about to go home to their respective homes. My father immediately stopped my friends who were walking home and asked my friends.

"Good! is Dawn home!?" my father said in a hurry.

"Already sir, Dawn always goes straight home once finished" said Wawan suddenly.

Then my father immediately ran away from my friends and immediately returned home to see me. Meanwhile, Wawan and Rahmat who are currently together with Agus look confused to see my father's attitude. They were very surprised because this first time my father looked like a panicked person.

"Why are you answering! ahuh!... if this can bother his business!" agus chirped with annoyance because Wawan sabotaged Agus' conversation with my father.

"Me-what's why? and what the hell is going on?" said Wawan who was increasingly confused and scratching his head. The grace that had just been silent also scratched his head because he was confused.

While my father was in front of the house and immediately went into the house and went to see me in grandfather's room. Brak! dad opened the door to Grandpa's room so tightly that it surprised me. His face was red as if he was going to vent all his emotions to me. I got scared, 'cause it looks like dad's gonna be mad at me.

"Borch! follow father!" said my dad who pulled me out of Grandpa's room.

I could only shut up and accept it, because I kept denying my father's request. Do you know what that request is? it is about me who wants to know the story of the devil's bridge. My father always got in my way when I always wanted to know that story to Grandpa.

So I just heard a little bit of the story I got from grandpa before dad came home to stop me. But this time I heard so many stories from my grandfather.. No, it's not like a story, it's like a mystery.
