Episode 57: One Week in Kazakhstan

A week passed, finally the group of participants of the international science Olympiad left for Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The group left early in the morning, because of the air travel that must be taken all day more in the plane, they used a flight from Soekarno Hatta international airport, using Garuda Indonesia aircraft, and they took a flight from Indonesia, each participant only needs to sit sweetly, because all travel costs that spend tens of millions per head are all borne by the government.

On board the plane are lucky they use business class, so air travel for a day in the air feels comfortable. In addition, Alma also felt happy because the food provided by flight attendants all felt good with an attractive look.

Even Alma thinks and feels sorry for the crew, such as pilots, flight attendants, operators etc., they must have a very high work risk. Throughout the day they must take passengers to their respective destinations, with a long flight route. The possibility of an accident at any time is very large, and if it happens they will fall somewhere, and of course the stakes are life.

Alma finally remembered that Akio even went on a space trip that took years. That must have been very exhausting.

" Even if it's a tens-of-hours of air travel, I'm tired, I can't imagine your journey from Mesier to Earth" Alma told Akio, who was sitting next to her.

Air travel, which takes more than a day, makes everyone feel very tired when the plane reaches the international airport in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

All participants along with a team from Indonesia make reservations at Kazakhstan hotel. Team from Indonesia booked 5 rooms, each room will be occupied by 3 people, because representatives from Indonesia there are 9 participants, and 5 people from the team outside the participants.

" We should go back to each room, we need a break after a very long journey.3 female participants occupy one room, and 6 male participants occupy other rooms. You can choose which room, because all rooms are the same".

This time Akio was forced to sleep with two other participants, because on the plane, Alma had advised Akio so that he did not book his own room again as before.

" If you miss me, we can go out for a while and walk together after the Olympics".

" Because now we have to focus on the matches we are going to face. Remember, we carry the good name of the Indonesian people, not just our regional name or our High School name, this already covers the country, so we have to fight very hard".

Sure enough, during the stay at the Kazakhstan hotel and following the course of the Olympic process, all seriously studied and studied. Eat with nutritious and timely food, get enough rest, also keep focused. All hope to win the gold medal, in order to make Indonesia proud.

The spirit and optimism are always the participants do, although it turns out that the end result is only 3 participants from Indonesia who took home the gold medal. The others obtained 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. It was very proud for the team this year.

" I'm really proud of all the participants who participated in the Olympics this year, they all struggle with working and studying very hard" said one of the guidance team who accompanied the participants in Almaty, Kazakhstanis.

As previously known, for gold medalists the opportunity to continue studying up to S3 both at domestic universities, and universities abroad.

The Indonesian delegation at the 17th International Science Olympiad Zhautykov Olympiad (IzhO) won the highest achievement in the event. The Indonesian delegation managed to get a perfect score by winning 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 2 bronze medals, gold medals in the categories of mathematics, physics and astronomy.

They are Almahyra Elshanum in mathematics, Banu Mahardika in physics, and Akio Toyoda in astronomy.

IzhO was held on 7-13 January 20xx in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan.

IZHO is organized by The National School of Physics & Math (NSPhM) and The Republican Scientific-Practical Center “Daryn", and supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Before returning to Indonesia, the participants were given 2 days to walk and also shop for souvenirs. Of course they are happy to follow a tour guide who led their exciting journey in Almaty, their first day in Kok Tobe.

Kok Tobe is one of the hills in the highest part of the city of Almaty, where the height of this hill reaches 110 m. To reach this hill is also not difficult, because it can use the help of cable cars. This place itself is a landmark of the city of Almaty, where no wonder this place is always crowded with tourists both local and outside. On this hill can also find a statue of The Beatles which was inaugurated in 2007, for fans of this band then obliged to visit it.

After that, the participants were invited to see the Alma Ata Tower

This one tower is one of the tourist attractions in Kazakhstan that must be visited, where the tower itself was built in 1975 to 1983. The tower itself stands in the mountainous area of Kok Tobe which has a height of 371.5 m and is one of the highest television transmitter steel towers in the world. Because this one tower is very prone to earthquakes, it is not surprising that this tower is able to survive in the midst of earthquake shocks reaching 10 on the Richter scale.

" I'd also like to build a tower, and I'd call it the Alma Akio tower, cool right?", Alma immediately chuckled at Akio's words which he thought were just a joke. Though Akio is serious and wants to make something by uniting the names of the two of them.

After seeing the tower Alma Ata the group headed to Medeu.

Medeu is one of the highest skating rinks in the world, located in the city of Almaty. This place itself is at an altitude of 1,691 m where it was first opened in 1949. In fact, this place itself is the place of the first ice skating competition in the world, namely on February 4, 1951, no wonder this place is a historical witness to the many ice skating records broken in this place.

But Alma and Akio can only look around the place, because they both can not play ice skating. The other friends tried it. Alma was invited by Lydia and said she would guide him, but Alma did not want to, because the temperature was too cold.

The final destination is the Tulip Gardens.

If you want to see the beauty of tulips then there is no need to go all the way to the Netherlands, because there are so many expanse of tulips in this country. Of course, the flowers have a variety of colors, besides this can be found at the Tulip Festival located in Almaty. But the place of this tulip flower is not as big as the one in the Netherlands but no less beautiful than the place in the Netherlands. So if you want to wash your eyes or take pictures in this garden is guaranteed to be very beautiful. Therefore, there is no harm if you visit tourist attractions in Kazakhstan where it is no less beautiful.

Alma and Akio took some photos together, and some photos with all the team from Indonesia. Many photos of Alma in the gallery of Akio's mobile phone, taken secretly by Akio, since the beginning was still in Kok Tobe, there are also those in the Tower of Alma Ata, which is located in the Alma Tower, and also in Medeu.

And it turns out that not only Akio who secretly took photos of Alma, there is Banu who from the beginning has been interested in Alma, using these streets to collect photos of Alma.

Likewise with Lydia who secretly took photos of Akio, with a considerable amount.

None of them were suspicious of Akio and Alma's proximity, as they thought it was because they were from the same area.

Even Alma and Akio both managed to become gold medalists in their respective fields. What a spectacular achievement.

As the night progressed, they all returned to their rooms, and were asked to gather again for dinner together, the last dinner in Kazakhstan, because tomorrow afternoon they had to return to Indonesia.
