Chapter 4 – Without Heart
The uneven stone steps are very dangerous on both sides. The slightest mistake would cause one to slip and fall.
After less than half a day, Wang Lin's legs felt like they were made of lead. He was sweating and out of breath, even difficult to move. Looking up from the bottom of the mountain, the path did not seem long, but now, this path felt like it was endless. Wang Lin's heart sank. He could not help but generate a desperate thought.
In front of him was a dozen physically strong boys, slowly climbing. They were all out of breath too. Until now, no one has given up.
Wang Lin gritted his teeth. He knew this was his last chance. His parents' hopes filled his mind. At that moment, the leg of a boy behind him slipped. The boy fell down from the side of the mountain with a shout.
"I surrender! HELP!"
Everyone stopped to look down at the same time and saw a dark light flashed by. A Heng Yue Sect disciple appeared out of nowhere and grabbed the boy. Their bodies were seen falling gently to the foot of the mountain.
Wang Lin was pale and silent. He carefully continued to climb upwards. Time seems to be running slower. Two days later, he could see the shadow of a dozen young men in front of him
Wang Lin did not know how many of these friends would give up, he only knew that he should not give up. His feet were bleeding and swollen. He felt a terrible tingling at every step he took. He still survived and used his hands to climb.
A middle-aged man with a sore skin floated down the stairs from the top of the mountain. “Little children, keep your heart strong, for this path is cruel. It will not be in vain, nothing in vain …. “He let out a long sigh as he floated past the youths who climbed up.
The middle-aged man passed by Wang Lin. This was the sixth young man he had passed, and he was the saddest of the group. With clothes soaked in blood, he looked bloody everywhere. His knees and toes were crushed. Wang Lin climbed up using his hands at this moment. The middle-aged man let out a loud sigh and asked, "My son, what's your name?"
Wing Lin's vision blurred. The only thought in his head was to reach the top or die. He didn't even hear the middle-aged man's question. In his eyes this small trace was the only thing that mattered.
The middle-aged man looked at Wang Lin's eyes. Deep down, he was a bit overwhelmed. He placed his hand on Wang Lin's head. “This boy has incredible perseverance. It's a shame he doesn't have talent. Too bad, what a pity …. '' He gave Wang Lin an inside look, then continued down the stairs.
The next night, Wang Lin's hand was bleeding. He left a trail of blood as he climbed the stairs. He did not know how he continued walking, but something kept pushing his body to continue. He felt he could die at any moment.
The sun rises on the third day. In the distance, Wang Lin could barely see the end of the stone stairs. Unfortunately, with the tip in sight, he heard a roar that shook his heart.
"Time is up . Only three are eligible. The rest… . IT FAILED!"
Wang Lin laughed bitterly and bitterly. He looked down while his body tilted down on the stairs. His consciousness is completely fading.
The black-clothed middle-aged man from three days ago stood on top of the mountain. He looked at Wang Lin from less than 50 meters away with a cruel look in his eyes.
Several Heng Yue Sect disciples descended from the mountain peak. They each stopped next to one of the youths on their way down and gave them medicine.
The black-clothed middle-aged man had a cold look in his eyes. He slightly nodded while his eyes passed through the 11 unconscious teenagers. ”Take the three that qualify and find a job for them to do in the future. Send the 25 who surrendered back to their families. As for the last 11 people, wait for them to wake up. Send them together to the sword spirit house to see if any of them have spiritual affinity with the sword spirit. If not, send them home ”
After the middle-aged man finished here, he walked away without a glance and the young man below.
Three days later, in the sword spirit house, stood 11 teenagers with pale faces. The wounds on Wang Lin's entire body had already healed, but the wounds in his heart were still wide open. The pain of his failure continued to eat away at his mind and body.
This sword spirit test was carried out not by a middle-aged man dressed in black, but by a man wearing white clothes, someone they had never seen before. He had the same cold and cruel look in his eyes. He looked at the young men as if they were ants.
The man said, with an impatient look, “This is the last test. If you can enter this room, you are eligible. ”
All Wang Lin saw was a very common building. The front door of the building is open. When he looked inside, he could see swords of different lengths.
Each of the youths, one by one, walked towards the house. The first to approach was within 5 meters of the house. His face flushed red as he struggled to get closer, but was driven away by an invisible force.
“Not qualified! Next one! ”Say man in white.
Wang Lin was seventh. The six people before him all suffered the same fate, driven away by an invisible force when they were within 5 meters of the house. He smiled bitterly, and with the last bit of hope in his heart, stepped forward.
As he approached the five-meter mark, Wang Lin could proceed with ease. His heart skipped a beat with anticipation. He stepped closer, 1 meter more. He has not felt any discomfort.
The white-clothed man was surprised "Hey!". His eyes were bright, and his face showed a hint of interest. He softly said, “Don't hesitate to continue. Keep walking towards the sword spirit house. If you are recognized by the sword spirit, you will be accepted as a true disciple, even if you failed the previous two trials. ”
The other ten teenagers standing there had an envious color on their faces. They were extremely envious of Wang Lin.
Wang Lin was extremely tense inside. The gaze his parents gave him flashed across his mind again as he stepped a meter closer to the door. There were only 3 meters left to reach the door. Wang Lin took another step.
He suddenly felt a huge force charging towards him. Wang Lin lost control of his body and was sent flying over ten meters.
The rest of the youths all looked at Wang Lin with mocking expressions in their eyes. They thought that Wang Lin was just like them, with no opportunities.
With a bitter laugh, Wang Lin could feel the gaping wound in his heart getting bigger. His parents' hopeful eyes gradually disappeared from his mind.
The white-eyed man turned cold again and he said, “Failed. Next ”
