Ice Cream

Ice Cream
Simplicity

Ryan did not go home immediately, back in to see Uncle Alex who sat back while reading a few sheets of paper from the amount of goods sold at his entertainment venue.

"Oh Ryan, are you done looking around." Ask Alex in a familiar way.

Politely Ryan replied... "So that's uncle."

"Good, come here and sit down, there's something I want to talk about."

Ryan took one seat near the table..."Relax, is that uncle ?."

"Where's your mother doing, is she okay ?."

"I can't say everything's fine, but for some reason, it's been better after we got home." Ryan smiled bitterly.

"What really happened ?."

"I got kicked out of school because of someone else's doing." Ryan replied with a fists tightly filled with emotion.

Ryan was quite relaxed about talking about a lot of things about his family to Alex, because the relationship between Alex and his father was not established for one or two years.

"So has your mother been working ?." Alex asked back.

"Sir Brahman gave mom a job in her house."

"Brahmans.. Hmmm, yes however only he might give a favor for now, I can understand."

Seeing Alex's expression was quite complicated in the murmur of an indistinct voice calling Brahman's name. Ryan felt there was a problem between the two.

"Why is uncle so uncomfortable to hear the name of Mr. Brahman." Reply Ryan asked.

"Not really, I feel quite unfortunate after the incident that befell your father for working in the place of Brahman, now your mother must also depend on Brahman." Her speech.

"You know how else uncle, looking for a hard job, and Brahman promised to give you a scholarship until graduation."

"That should be a good thing, but... Yes I as your father's friend, I would rather you and your mother get a little away from Brahman's business." Alex replied so reluctantly.

"What's going to be bad ?." Ryan was curious.

But Alex's head is like answering..."I don't know, but since a long time ago, I didn't like that puffer, he always used your father for his own sake."

"I know, from a long time ago, that you worked hard for Brahman, spending your time building someone else's company until you died."

"Here you go, don't think too deeply."

"Good uncle."

"Yes, I'll give you my phone number, if your mother needs help, just have her call."

Ryan stood up and was polite...."I get it, so don't worry uncle and thank you, I'll go first."

Exit the room, Ryan wants to go home through the back door through the employee's rest area. There are some comfort women who work here. One of them is Ayu.

"Lorser... I'm asking you for help." He said to Ryan.

As a man of respect for the older man, Ryan approached...."What can you help me with ?."

"You're from Nawasena school, right ?."

"Yes, where did you know."

"Arum told me he knew you at school." The answer.

"Ah about that..."

Looking at the written book in Ayu's hands on behalf of Arumi Nissa, Ryan was not too bothered to just give it to his class tomorrow.

At first glance Ryan opened one page at the very back, yes there was a small writing or just a heart expression that he could not say. But Ryan smiled to himself and found it to be funny.

"All right." Answer Ryan.

*******

The rented house is narrow, stuffy, weathered, messy, shabby, and almost uninhabitable if not for the roof covering it.

This is Arum's residence along with his younger brother, Zain. The dull wooden door opened, the five Watt yellow light flame illuminated the room without any luxury items inside.

Nothing fun, everything looks dull, pathetic and melancholic, or any electronic stuff, just an old 14-inch tube television, and an old-fashioned cell phone that Arum bought to communicate with other people.

The gaze of looking at the ceiling, spider webs as if to be a suitable decoration for the haunted house setting. But not for Arum and Zain, the brothers had already been hired for two years, as well as all the miserable lives he lived after his mother left.

Inevitably that is what they can accept, even if they refuse but there is no chance to hope more, because who else will help, besides himself.

Arum works hard to continue living, only he becomes the only hope as an older brother for Zain to stay in school.

School books, worn bags, pinkie-long pencils, half-worn erasers and pictures of the natural landscape of the sun were sandwiched in the middle of the two hills.

Zain's peaceful face was asleep in his sleep, covered only with a scabbard and a thin pillow. Arum put a plastic bag of fried chicken on the table.

Slowly, gently and carefully Arum woke Zain up, his lazy face still sleepy still forced to open his eyes.

"Sister ?."

"Zain, let's go, let's eat, brother bring fried chicken." Arum said with a smile.

Only that food could make Zain happy, a simplicity for others. But for them, it becomes extraordinary without being able to be enjoyed every day.

Vigorously, a smile and a lie-free happiness in a paper box with a picture of a chicken giving a thumbs up.

"Sister today I met a good brother, he asked me to play." Plain zein vibe.

"Who's brother ?."

"Forgot whose name it is, but he gave me a snack."

"Don't haphazardly know the people on the street, later if Zein in child how."

"But he wears the same rich clothes, brother Arum." Discuss it while chewing food.

Of course, it does not occur to anyone who wants to play with a young child, even more so they come from elite schools. The children of the rich always look disgusted at the poor like Zein or other destitute children.

Complete all the food, Zain just sit back and relax while watching the night comedy show on television. While Arum fix bags and textbooks for school tomorrow.

Repeatedly opening and closing the crumpled bag, looking around in every pile of books where previously neatly arranged now scattered to and fro.

He felt that something was missing, it was true that one book was left in the locker where he worked. It's just that Arum considers that the book is not too important, so there is no intention to return to take it.

"How is this, where tomorrow must be given by the teacher." Confused Arum's face.

Just resigned Arum for the book that was left behind, although now he went to pick it up, all for free, because public transportation had stopped. And the hour hand shows midnight time, it's dangerous for him to go outside.

Closing the bag and laying down on the floor mattress, his eyes closed.... "Forget it. I wonder what punishment I get tomorrow."

But at first glance the shadow of Ryan's figure flashed through Arum's mind, when a problem came to him, everyone did not want to be present to be a defender of the truth.

But one man stood up to save her from trouble, a little heart Arum, he wanted to thank, because for the first time in life, someone came to help.
