Harris Risjad's
The golden light of dusk is always mesmerizing. Stifle. Promising afternoon must come to replace the blazing sun that all afternoon was staring at the earth and its contents.
Harris stood in front of a large window in his office. From the 7th floor, he saw houses and vehicles passing by down there looking like a moving miniature. According to the prescribed rhythm. As if racing wants to amaze him.
I don't know how long he's been standing there. It feels good every afternoon staring at the movement of the sun sinking. Because the big window of his office is right facing west. That orange-colored sharp highlight was so soothing to his soul. He shed his fatigue will pile files that he must learn, he skinned, until then he made the source of the lives of many people. Including himself.
Harris raised his right arm. Where the fingers are still and are holding a small box of light blue. With tied matching colored ribbon, the box of thick cardboard paper looks so beautiful.
He looked at the box with a feeling that kept raging. The mind and the mind argue. Should the blue ribbon box be sent to someone who should have received it?
"Udahlah.. Just buy me the stuff I asked for." Alm Sayings. Rizky at that time through an international telephone connection again ringed in the ear. It was two weeks before the accident that killed Rizky, his best friend. Harris was in Hong Kong attending a young entrepreneur seminar with many young entrepreneurs in Indonesia.
Harris took a deep, deep breath. "Buy hairpin is no problem. But why should I give it to your boyfriend?"
"Let her know that you're not actually as bad as she thought you were" Rizky replied casually. "Don't forget, next week when you go home, immediately give the hairpin to Keara. And say it's the souvenirs from Hong Kong that you chose especially for her."
"Rooks. What if your boyfriend is judging me bad? I don't mind."
"I objected. You're my best friend. And Keara the girl I love. We'll be married soon. I'd be so happy if you two could get along."
Harris flinching. Don't know how else to argue. Rizky's logic that day really confused her. Don't know how to respond.
"Keara always called you an iceberg. Cold, heartless. And you know, the funny thing is he even said he never heard your voice." Rizky chuckles. Harris had to keep a little cell phone out of his ear. Because of the deafening sound of Rizky's laughter.
"I've learned some funny things that we've been through to make him believe that you're actually a friendly and warm person."
"You know you shouldn't to do it.. Let your girlfriend judge me as she pleases."
"No, Ris.. Pleases. I was confused as to why your attitude was so cold and suddenly became quiet every time I met Keara. I know you so well, but.."
Harris flinching. Not wanting to explain Rizky's confusion.
Rizky sounded a long and deep sigh. Before saying the ultimate sentence that stifled Harris's chest, even to this day. After two months of departure Rizky tightness was getting heavier pressing.
The sentence that he did not expect, became a sentence that implied the premonition of Rizky's departure for eternity. A sentence that seemed to be a will for Harris to always take care of the woman. Keara.
"You have to be kind to Keara, like you've always been kind to me and my family. Later if I have to go, I can rest easy on you."
Harris swallowed his saliva with a glaring look. Far away led out the window that revealed a golden light that was increasingly dark. He realized that he had already spent quite a lot of time just standing in his current place
Harris made up her mind to meet Keara tonight. He fulfilled his promise to Alm. Rizky though has missed 2 months more since Rizky's death. Trust must still be delivered. This blue ribbon box should have reached the right hands.
Harris rushed to the car. Cleaving the bottleneck that seems to have just begun to unravel. He glanced at the digital clock on the dashboard as his car stopped right in the yard of Keara's house. At 18.03. It only took him five minutes to hand over the box, then go home and pray maghrib at the nearest mosque that could be found. Ok, good plan.
But plan to keep a plan. What was sought was not at home.
"Keara hasn't come home yet. Last morning he went to campus, but in the afternoon met with a friend of High School, so he played first to his friend's house." explained Keara's mother.
Harris remained silent. In his brain there was a fierce debate. Should we wait until Keara comes? Or just leave it to mother K..?
"Who is this? I'm sorry, mom seems to have seen mas'e come to this house for the first time." Keara's mother's friendly voice made her realize.
"S-I'm Harris, Mom. His friend Rizky." he replied while looking down politely. "I came here because there was a deposit from Rizky for Keara. Just had..."
Harris hung up his sentence in order to catch the originally calm and friendly old look that suddenly turned cloudy. May still remember the grief of her daughter being left for all eternity by the man who was about to marry her.
"I just put this away..." Harris took out a blue ribbon box from his suit pocket.
"Just wait, son.. Keara's on her way home. Arrive soon too. Come on. sit down." Without waiting for Harris's approval, Keara's mother opened the door wider and led Harris in, then sat down on a worn sofa in the living room.
Harris looked at her. The living room is neat although not too spacious. It was half the size of the room in his office. There is a set of light green sofa that has been hollow at some point. Also the cupboard is old enough but still looks sturdy.
Just as Keara's mother thrust a glass of warm tea onto the table in front of Harris, Keara was seen walking into her yard. The woman who looks surprised to see her car parked beautiful. Maybe I'm guessing who the owner is.
"Waalaikumsalam.." answered the mother quickly. "Wait a while and go home."
"This is someone looking for K.."
Keara looked dumb as soon as she caught Harris's face sitting sweetly on the sofa. What a rare sight. An iceberg swept over his house.
"Son Harris, I'm gonna go in first. Keara has come." continued Keara's mother.
Harris nodded to greet Keara who was still staring at the door. The beautiful face that had originally looked confused, now began to smile thinly and nodded her head to return Harris' greeting.
"What's Harris doing to my house?" asked Keara after sitting herself on the sofa. He stared fixedly at the manic eye in front of him. Trying to guess what was hidden behind his blank expression. But it didn't work.
Harris stared intently at Keara. The highlight was even the equivalent of a laser beam capable of penetrating the wall behind Keara's body.
This woman is his best friend's girlfriend.. The woman who was unbeknownst to Rizky and everyone.. He had stolen his heart.
Oh, naw! It's a shame to love her best friend's lover.
His mind floated one night six years ago. As he sat alone in the garden near his home complex. The sound of the roaring cry of a young girl made him interested in approaching.
"whoareyou? Why look at me? Never seen a cry??" the girl scattering tears gushed with a grunt.
Harris, who was wearing a baseball cap and a black mask, laughed. The frightened girl did not care about the possibility that she was the one who would have evil intentions. Very enticing.
Harris sat on the rock bench of the park, next to the girl. "Why you?"
"My girlfriend cheated.. Huhuuhuux"
"You want some ice cream?"
The girl nodded. Carrying a warm swish in Harris' heart. The beautiful girl instantly became a magnet that kept pulling her to come to the park every night. With a mask and a black hat.
Unfortunately, Harris began to understand the pattern of the girl's arrival. Every time the girl wanted to cry. At least once a year, her cheating boyfriend would make her cry in the park and meet Harris. Harris will comfort and appease the sweet girl with the lure of ice cream.
But for the past two years, the girl has never come. And he understood the reason last year. When he meets his best friend, Rizky. And Rizky introduced Harris to her boyfriend.
Keara.
Yeah, the girl crying in the park was Keara.
Keara who certainly did not recognize him without a mask and a hat.
The girl who made Harris go crazy by visiting the park often, hoping to see the crying girl. But that day she becomes the girlfriend of Rizky, her best friend.
Harris smiled faintly. It's worth two years not to be seen crying in the park anymore. Rizky can't possibly hurt a woman, her mind is sliced.
"Sorry, is there anything important?" tanya Keara broke Harris' daydream.
Harris poked the box at Keara. "From Rizky."
Harris swallowed his saliva with great difficulty. He had to break his promise to Rizky. Though closely attached to Rizky's last message, "Say the gift from you huh, Harris. Of you not me. Remember."
