The family dinner begins. However, without Liam because the man had to finish all the work immediately before the wedding day to be held next week arrived.
Both Jayden and Jonathan threw astonished looks at their younger brother who had looked bright since. Even he smiled after feeding a spoonful of rice into his mouth.
"Are you still sane, Je?" ask Jayden.
"Eh hmm. Why is it, brother?" Je replied while occasionally glancing at the cell phone beside him. How to know there is a message notification from the idol.
"I smell teenagers here. You look like the women who have been crazy about me all this time" Jonathan said.
"Ish, just as you speak."
"Your sister is getting married next week." The words that came out of Jesslyn's mouth suddenly made her two sons spray rice right into Jessica's face which was in front of them.
"Sister! Can't you guys be a little more polite! Disgusting." Jessica snorted bitterly while cleaning her face. However, the brief ringing of her phone instantly changed the expression of the girl.
"Mommy, no kidding, right? Who's the stupid guy who wants to marry a bad girl like her?" Jonathan is of course astonished, whereas Jayden prefers to continue the dinner despite being quite surprised.
"He's not stupid, brother. If he's stupid, it's impossible to be a casino man" Je replied without looking at his brother and still focused on typing on his phone screen.
"That means he's unlucky for having to marry you" Jonathan said.
"He's lucky, brother. Because at gambling she won and it turned out that her wish was only to marry me," Jessica replied involuntarily while nodding lightly.
The clinking sound of spoons and forks slammed onto the plate sounded quite loud shocking everyone. The sharp gaze thrown by Nicholas made Jessica realize that she had misspoken.
"Oops, flippancy," murmured Jessica.
"Jessica Light!"
"Yes, Dad." Jessica lowered her head, the look on her father's face did not dare to be stared at at at this moment. Too scary to see. Even for Jessica, this was the first time she had seen her father have the red-faced face he was now.
"Now tell Daddy honestly. How do you know William?" The resolute voice of Nicholas' baritone caused the room to instantly quiet down.
Jessica was silent for a moment, the girl bit her lip and thought about how to ease her father's current anger. He did not want the marriage that was in sight to fail just like that because of the accident of his mouth.
"I'm .. I'm in love at first sight with her, Daddy. Then ask her to fight and if I win she has to marry me. But, I lost and he came to propose to me. Doesn't mean we both like it at first sight." Feeling sure of the answer Jessica also nodded her head and ventured to look at the father.
No more tones of tenderness came out of Nicholas' mouth. Not only did his high voice describe how devastated and disappointed he was, the man also felt angry at himself at this moment. Meanwhile, her three children fell silent not daring to reply in the slightest, while Jesslyn gently rubbed her husband's back.
"There is no marriage! Daddy, cancel your blessing and go to your room now! Reflect on what you've done wrong!"
"But, Dad—" Jessica tried to defend herself, but for the first time the father even snapped quite loudly.
"Now!" The impact of Nicholas then made the wife hint to Jessica to follow her father's orders first.
In a fit of annoyance Jessica stepped up the stairs to her room, while Nicholas was sitting limp holding his head which suddenly felt throbbing.
"Sayang—"
"We'll talk later." Not wanting to further vent the frustration, Nicholas chose to immediately move and step outside to find fresh air. She went to the back of the house, where her three children as children used to play together.
Nicholas sat on the stairs while contemplating, recalling the times he nurtured and invited his children to play in between his busy lives. An event that will not be repeated despite paying with all his property. Only the remaining memories in his mind could not be played again.
He lowered his head, heaved a heavy sigh, and rubbed the rough face that was now no longer young. A clap of the hand of the wife behind who then sat beside him made the man immediately turn his head.
"What are you thinking, honey?" ask Jesslyn.
Nicholas just shook his head small, it turns out that the feeling of not sincere children growing up is now whacking souls. Although not Jessica, there will be times when she must sincerely let Jayden and Jonathan have a family and choose their own path.
Jesslyn put her head on her husband's shoulder. "No feeling, Nich. We have been married twenty-five years. If my parents were still around, they would probably worry about me like you do with kids."
Jesslyn's sentence of course invited Nicholas to turn his head towards her. He looked at the woman who was smiling at him. "Darling, the kids are all grown up now. They know what's good and not for her life, including Jessica. I know it's still too much for you to let go of getting married. You know the nature of your son."
Jesslyn gave a small laugh as she grabbed the hand of her husband who was now starting to wrinkle. "He's very similar to you if he wants something. You always like something in just one look. But, look at it now. Is there a wrong decision you made?" He shook little.
"Darling, our daughter is all grown up. Ready not ready, not willing. We have to let go of it to start a new life of choice. Children are only the care of God, do not make it difficult for them for various reasons. When in fact everything comes from you who are reluctant to accept the fact they are adults. Remember, you still have me. I'm the one who'll keep you company until death picks us up."
Without feeling the warm circles fluttering from the corner of Nicholas' eyes. It is true what the wife said. He was not angry for Jessica's silly reasons, but rather unwillingness to let go of the princess to live a new life.
Given the fact one by one of his three children will leave, sooner or later to start a new life. It feels like Nicholas doesn't want them to grow up and let them be kids again. When he was the special person they had. It was not the outsider they had just met and managed to make her as jealous as she was now.
